Installing a Wall Mount Kitchen Faucet

Installing a wall mount faucet is one of those jobs that can be either deliciously easy or devilishly difficult, depending on whether you’re replacing an already existing faucet or installing a new faucet on a virgin wall space.

The Easy Way
If what you want to do is replace a wall mounted faucet with a new fixture, that project is easily within the range of most homeowners. Amusingly, removing the old faucet is often the most difficult portion of the job as the connections may be quite stubborn. Patience pays off here. Removing the old faucet often also provides lessons as to how the equipment all fits together on the new faucet, so paying attention is a great idea. Once the old faucet is removed, the new faucet, which has obviously been previously inspected and measured to make sure it is compatible with the current mounting (Do the water supply holes on both faucets look like they are the same distance apart?) can be mounted.

The Hard Way
If you are reading this article in hopes of getting some tips about installing a new wall mounted faucet, you should definitely consider hiring a professional to do the job. For a pro this is not a particularly difficult job, and the biggest expense will relate to the need to open and close the wall surface to establish a connection with the water supply pipes. Knowing which tiles or wallboard to break and how to replace them seamlessly after the job is not a good task for an amateur, and accidental leaks from unsure craftsmanship can actually be quite dangerous and costly.

The Smart Way
A savvy homeowner is well equipped with a variety of tools and supplies. Most projects include a surprise need for an unexpected tool, so being prepared for this eventuality is the best plan. The single most useful tool is an enthusiasm level that does not rush projects, but rather considers them carefully for a period before taking action. Many projects are bungled by amateurs that rush in excitedly and make costly mistakes that could have been avoided.
